The show goes on.
Sep. 3rd, 2011 12:05 pmMinou, Sonny's understudy, is settling into her new role as primary cat. She still looks for him, but she does so less and less. Assuming all the cat duties has been exhausting, and she's sleeping more than usual. She is dividing her time between hubby and me for petting and play. There has to be a cat available when we need one. Sonny's ashes sit beside the computer as he loved to do in life. I treasure the years I had with him. We will consider getting another cat when the remodeling is done.
With the refinancing in place, we've contacted several firms that replace windows for estimates. We'll do those first. I want quality, energy-efficient, easy-to-clean windows. They'll probably be double-paned, double-hung vinyl windows with argon gas between the panes. Those are supposed to be good at keeping heat out in the summer and keeping heat in in the winter. The patio door needs to be replaced too, probably with a similar type of glazing material. I should know by this time next year whether we're getting better efficiency out of the new windows. I have several years of historic data to compare against.
After that, the kitchen gets done. I'll post before and after pictures for your vicarious enjoyment of the results, and I'll post whiny complaints about the process if it becomes irritating. Then we paint. Then we do the floors.
I've got a list that we'll keep checking off from largest to smallest projects until we run out of money. The tax credits and the energy savings will get plowed back into the mortgage principle. Paying off the mortgage a few years early would be gratifying. I've heard political rumblings that the wing nuts want to get rid of the mortgage interest deduction for we middle class folks. At least I'm no longer giving any money to that rancid piece of crap Bank of America. I hope they get charged for all the mortgage fraud they perpetrated.
The Tropical Storm Lee is currently dumping a lot of rain on us. I feel the air pressure dropping. My head is aching. It doesn't help that the phone rang at 5:00 am with a recording from the Parish telling me there was a tornado warning. After checking the Weather Channel and finding out it was all the way in Chalmette, I went back to sleep. The phone rang again around 6:30 am saying the same thing. Crikey! I was over at a friend's house last night 'til midnight drinking beer. Let me sleep. No, it happened once more. Then I was up. Might as well make coffee.
There was a marsh fire in New Orleans East earlier this week that seriously stank up the place all over the metropolitan area. This soaking should extinguish it nicely. Citizens were carping at government a few days ago, wondering why they didn't send fire trucks, helicopters or whatever to fight the fire. As Mayor Landrieu explained, there were not funds in the budget. The same anti-government, anti-tax dipwads called for begging for help from the state and federal government. The hypocricy burns like a marsh fire and is just as putrid in the nostrils.

Date: 2011-09-03 07:48 pm (UTC)Do they really call everyone with a such warning calls? And you can't turn them off, or unsubscribe, or something? Seems a bit counterproductive to get on people's nerves that way. Especially when there's no immediate danger...
All the best for your projects!

Date: 2011-09-03 11:14 pm (UTC)Gods, I hope they don't kill the mortgage interest deduction for us- I just got this house, and am actually looking forward to tax season- my windfall will get me some funds for putting in an outbuilding.
Stay dry. We're about to get our first cool shot of the season up here in AR.

Date: 2011-09-04 04:26 am (UTC)It sickens me how stingy the various government people are being with disaster money. even when you use the personal finace metaphor -- when you have a disaster, you take out a frickin loan to fix things if you don't have the cash on hand!
At least up here, they are talking about not letting people rebuild on the Passaic river if their house was destroyed. Because some areas have flooded BAD twice this year alone.
I also hope they don't kill the mortgage deduction.
