Unbelievable. A guy from Lowes finally called me this morning. The part we had been waiting for all these weeks has been discontinued. The vendor had been trying to find enough materials to make one, but was unsuccessful. The guy suggested a different part, which I looked at and found to be an acceptable replacement. Now the order is complete, and they're supposed to be delivering everything tomorrow.

We both groused about the vendor being a twerp about it. If they had simply said that it had been discontinued several weeks ago, this whole process would be over and done with by now. I'm going to note that in my feedback to the company. I'm hoping the work on the kitchen doesn't get as insanely complicated. I'm going to try to do as much of that in the store. I mistakely though online shopping was a better way to go.

I should be receiving the contract for my Wiccan Ethics book in the next few days. Once it's signed and returned, the publisher has a year to publish the book. I'll need to provide one signed permission form to use a graphic I found that perfectly illustrated my point. Everything else in the volume is my research or snippets of quotes that are fair use. This time next year, I could be traveling around to Pagan events selling my book. How exciting.

The downside is that I'll have to get a photo for the cover, and I look like crap in pictures these days. I'm hesitant to get a professional photographer since I haven't made a penny on the thing yet. Maybe I can trade a sushi lunch for some photos. A friend of mine fancies himself a decent photographer.

Kelly's Lighting assured us the sconces would be in by XX. Within 2 days they told us it was out of production for months. I'm afraid I didn't give them a good review.

I can imagine how exciting the contract is. I miss going to SCA events. A good photographer is good to know. I can see where food would have to be involved. ;]

Hey - I might even know that photographer ;-)! In that case, say hi to him from me!

Sucks, about that part. And indeed, if you can actually go there and put a sticker on what you want, it might help just a little. Then again - there's morons everywhere. Also today, there's usually only about half the morons it *would* take to get anything done properly :-p!

That will be so cool, traveling and selling your book! I wish I could come and have one signed ;-).
Congrats again. Wish you a HUGE success, of course!

Are you implying you didn't get an advance on royalties from the publisher?

When I needed publicity photos (for my incipient music career), I bit the bullet and spent the money on the photographer *and* a hair/makeup person. It was worth every penny; those photos were amazing. Actually, my last set of headshots (that I got for an acting audition but now use them for my profiles everywhere and if I needed a book jacket photo, I'd use them for that, too) were done by a "new" professional photographer, and she didn't charge an arm and a leg (I got the friend rate - about 100 bucks for a 1 hour session and 20-40ish pictures to choose among)
