All the books and most of the other media has been packed. When I get back from New York, we're starting the work on the kitchen and rest of the downstairs. We're getting one of those storage dealies they deliver, you pack, they pickup then redeliver when you're done. I've got a load of stuff to donate on the love seat. I need to finish packing the odds and ends. My estimate of thirty boxes was too low. I'll have to get more next time I'm out.

At some point today, I need to drop the donations and stop by the kitchen place to give them another check. I also need to go to Lowe's and buy a respirator to use while I'm tearing out the carpet and scraping the popcorn texture off the ceiling. This is going to be as much of an ordeal as the bathroom. I'll take some photos for the before and after.

Go, you guys!

Sounds like some work you're planning... You're really going to scrape that ceiling yourself?!
The "storage dealie" sounds way nice, though. Wish we would have something like it.

So, for how long will you be without a kitchen? All food grilled outside for a week or so ;-)?

We'll probably be without for about two or three weeks. We'll be eating cold sandwiches and a lot of take-out during that time. I'm going to keep the microwave on a portable table just to have something to heat leftovers with.

Yeah, I'm going to do as much work as I can along with the others to keep the duration as short as possible. The bathroom dragged for several weeks. I've got another business trip in June. I want the downstairs work to be done before I leave on that, or at least the majority. Finishing touches won't be a huge hassle.

First, we have to move everything possible into the storage box. We have to do all the demolition, tearing out the carpet, We're doing the floors, scraping the ceiling, all the baseboards and molding, and painting. The kitchen place will come install the cabinets and countertops once the floor is finished. Once all that's done, we'll get the storage box back and put everything in order.

If it doesn't kill me, it will be worth it.

Hey - it's certainly not worth killing yourself for!

At least you don't have to freeze to death, so a few cold meals more might be the better choice ;-).

Well you certainly have your plate full with this one eh? Sure helps when you can do the demo yourself. Of course I'll be watching for pictures.

this is likely too late, but what we did during our kitchen renovation (which took, I think 2-3 MONTHS because we had to gut the room to the studs and redo/relocate plumbing and gas lines in an 80-year-old house) was move the fridge and microwave into the dining room, and get one of those large plastic tubs for dirty dishes (that we would wash in the basement sink) and have a 2-gallon water jug for drinking/cooking (for what little cooking we did), and an electric kettle for making hot water for tea (life saver). We kept the diner down the street in business during the renovations.
