The more I hear about the constant fuckups in the federal government, the more pissed off I get. This is ridiculous. Thankfully, I am not in dire need and have a decent place to stay. I feel for those who are still in shelters and have nothing with them and nothing to go back to.

I'm not going to complain too much even though my time at the library is limited because at least I have Internet access and can keep in touch with people.

I love you all. Please don't let the interest in the mess flag to the point where apathy reasserts itself. I'll update again as soon as I can.

Wow, he got shuffled off to Arizona? Poor thing. He won't know how to act. Those 'Zonies are strange. I'm glad he's OK, but I'm going to worry about Tandy.

Unfortunatly me staying mad is not going to help much. But I will not sink into apathy I promise.
I really, really feel for all of you affected by this whole mess.
I wish there were something I could do.
But appart from $deity pestering I can't do much.
:(
I hope you and yours stay well and safe. And that you manage to get your lives back on track as soon as possible.

Glad you're doing okay.

My problem at this point isn't apathy, it's lack of a clear target to aim my bile at. So much blame should be given to so many people, at all levels.

Let us know if there is anything we can do for you.

*hugs*

It sounds like several branches of government screwed up. :( Canada just sent off 3 destroyers today with a bunch more equipment. It also showed lastnight the Urban Rescue Unit getting back to vancouver. Alot of the firefighters and other emerge personel here want to go down and help. One nurse left here the other day. Also showed some little girls who fund raised with sort of a lemonaide stand to give money to the red cross. Not as many individuals are donating though. Some are mad a Bush and say it's a rich country that should help itself instead of blowing money waging war... *sigh* Most of the people though feel it's a humanity and compassion issue. Alot of them are doing small fundraisers or trying to go to the area to help. Some of the money being raised from what I can tell is to help people rebuild their lives. To give them back some of what they've lost... not just the basic necessities.

I am a bit disturbed though to see the volume of gun buying on tv. Why do people fear their neighbours so? Wouldn't they be upset if the roles were reversed? :/

Anyways I'm rambling... sorry I know you've got limited time. One of my friends is in the same city but I don't know if she's near you. [livejournal.com profile] qilora She's been posting on some of the stuff.

I wonder if there is something that will pair families later or that people can send little care packages too with some basic family info to try to give comfort and say we care? Sort of like we do here for xmass hampers.

Glad to know that you are in a good place. I found out today that another old NOLA acquaintence of mine is still holed up in the city, among those who are refusing to leave. Hopefully, he will be convinced to go, because things will be a lot worse before they get better.

Hi Sue :)

What are you doing with yourself? working?
How did the cats settle in?
Whats the place like where you are staying?

Not much point me being mad - I already did that :P Believe me, I was thoroughly p***ed about the stuffups while they were happening - we got enough on the news for me to see it wasnt happening the way it should. I guess you have to have had a major disaster like that before the bureaucracy get their collective heads around how to sort it properly.

The irony is, when we get taught stuff like business continuity and counter disaster planning, we always get told "this is an American model" and it always comes from a US textbook ... so we take it on board (especially after our own disaster - Cyclone Tracy (Darwin 1974) - and a few smaller things - implement all the procedures, practice them - and then we see a total lack of coordination in NO.

Thinking of you :)

I've been chasing down assistance, such as getting food stamps, changing my address and signing up with temporary employment agencies. Other than that aggravation, it hasn't been a bad time. We've all been having lovely conversations and I've been trying to keep the place clean, dishes done and laundry washed. It's the least I can do.

The cats adjusted. They sleep most of the time since they are confined to one room. I don't want them messing up his nice place, especially because he is a chef.

Otherwise, it's an ideal location. I still can't wait for the electricity and water gets turned back on so I can get home.

I can so understand your anger...it is amazing just how much they can continue to screw up!

I am glad that you and yours are ok, if there is anything you need or want do not hesitate to let me know, you can email me at demonhedge at the google service.

I guess the current rage fits too perfectly....

...into the general picture I had of the US, sadly. So my personal rage and "interest" is certainly not going away any time soon.
I only hope that a lot more voters and "good people" get a hint out of it all... A lot of folks here seem completely convinced that this is the last straw for republican government. I am not as optimistic...
We'll see.
It is extremely good to hear that you and yours are making the best of it and are safe and cared for, of course! My best wishes are with you all.

This is the first time I've had internet access since the disaster, mostly because my ship has been running away from hurricanes too much to get a reliable signal!

CNN has been doing its usually sensationalist coverage, and it really does look like a complete set of morons was in charge.
(It took how long to get the pumps started?)

On a more personal note, up until today we were fairly sure that we'd be going down to New Orleans to help out directly as a floating hotel.
Sounds great so far, doesn't it?

However!
This would have cost almost everyone on the ship their job (other than the housekeeping staff), and made the company a great big stack of money.
So much for altruism.

We heard today that we are almost certainly not one of the ships going, much to the relief of the waiters and bar staff, who would have been almost as badly off as the people we would have been going to help.
I'd be ok as I can transfer to another ship, but those guys have nowhere else to go.
