I think we'll probably head home before the end of next week. I'm missing my computer, my stuff and the cats are tired of being cooped up in one room. There is very little in the way of entertainment up here. Video stores don't have a decent selection unless you like pablum and crap. As soon as I hear anything about there being drinkable, batheable water in my ZIP code, I'm outa here.

*hugs* cabin fever sucks... Poor kitties.

What we hear up where I am is that parts of NOLA are open for business again. The french quarter and downtown are being tidied up and have power restored. Some of the restaurants and bars are back open in the quarter. I don't remember if stores are. They didn't say anything about water other than the other areas of the city are draining or drained and have left this weird cracked mud type toxic sludge on the roads that they are cleaning up. They still have deputized people wondering around the streets with some form of machine gun though. Showed some canadian guy who got deputized. Anyways sounds like your area of the city is faring well.

Good luck!

It seems they are really getting somewhere with the power, at least. Of course, I have little idea about your quarter...
Hope you will find everything in acceptable condition, and that your city will survive with at least some of its charm.

As always - all the Best!

A word of caution.

Can't blame you a bit, but be safe. It'll be quite a while before any real semblance of normality.

Good luck!

I wouldnt rush comming back. Not only is it toxic sludge but it is covering everything down here...I mean the grass is grey, and the smell is awful. Not to mention another hurricane may make its way down here next week. We stayed and spent two weeks without electricity, water, or sanitary facilities. yes I was going primal in the woods...not pleasant as far as Im concerned. Not to mention the mosquito situation, for the two weeks we had no air they were swarming into our house and taking as much blood from us as they wanted. we ended up setting up a tent with netting since the west nile and whatever else the little buggers carry couldnt get to us. I will stay again if this new storm comes here as I just have too many animals (mine along with those we ve taking in from family and friends) to leave alone. luckly our 100 year old house is a champ, and Ill never curse it again for being so old! blessings..again stay away unless you are ready to go comando ..no joke..ps MREs rate very low on the yummy scale...

hugs and sympathy
