Officer pulls up as we're shooting off bottle rockets in the front parking area safely towards the street. He asks if that's all we have. We say, "yes," even though we have half a sack of stuff sitting in the kitchen. He says, "Nix the rest and I won't arrest you." Very nice. We slink off back into the house and go back to watching "Curb Your Enthusiasm" on TV. The fog is so thick, visibility is maybe a quarter of a mile.

Happy new year, everyone.

That was nice of him. Although probably motivated by a strong aversion to paperwork. ;)

Crikey....

Was it officially forbidden? You guys have nerves ;-).

Did they really arrest people for fireworks? I am quite astonished. Here, it would just mean a fine, but New Years Eve and first of August, it's allowed everywhere. Of course, one or two houses always end up on fire....

's verboten here, too. Then again, you're more likely to go to jail for being drunk in public than for the fireworks -- fireworks activity usually means a fine, but people always refuse to accept one, so it's down to the station...

Wow. I had no idea!

And yeah - when you're nastily drunk, you do end up in a kind of jail here, too. One that contains very little but a drain in the floor. It's called "Ausnüchterungszelle" :-). I'm sure they got them filled last night...

And a happy new year to you, too, youngster!
