Busy weekend and a meme.
Sep. 10th, 2006 07:47 pmIf there is one or more people on your friends list who makes your world a better place just because they exist and who you would not have met (in real life or not) without the internet, then post this same sentence in your journal.
Yesterday was exhausting. Twelve hours of activity can wreak havoc on this sedentary old carcass.
First thing was the read-through of Rebecca's play. On the way over there, I had to stop at the bank to deposit my check since the direct deposits were a complete SNAFU Friday. It's nice that Rebecca wanted me to read one of the main characters. She's made the finals and I really think her play could win the competition. We'll have a couple more rehearsals and then do the onstage reading the day after Pagan Pride Day. We got two complete read-throughs done by Noon, then we dispersed.
After that, I went to
goddessmusings and
drgndancer's house in the Bywater to paint. You'd think painting a room as small as their laundry room would be easy. Nope. The walls sucked up two coats of Killz like graft to a Republican. The washer and dryer were dragged away from the wall but not out of the room. The largest shelf was also left in the room leaving not much room for human maneuvering. I got that stuff all over my arms. Painting behind the water heater, which couldn't be moved at all, was a throbbing hemorrhoid. I swore prodigiously while trying to slather paint behind that behemoth.
At three o'clock, I bagged it. We had gotten two coats on the walls and I had to get home, get cleaned up (scrubbing Killz out of my hair and off my arms) and go to Vel's for the parting ritual for Ken. Being clean lifted my energy level. The ritual was tough. Those of us who knew him were weepy as hell at the end. I don't know if it was worse for me because that's where I interacted with him the most. Up in Shreveport, I could be detached because although it was his home, I'd never gone up there to visit while he was alive. I always saw him sitting at the table in Vel's front yard with a cup of coffee and a cigarette. Aside from really screwing up the singing part, which I knew I sounded like a wounded moose, we got through it.
There was a brief interlude of drinking coffee, munching pastries and chatting until the PPD meeting. I picked up another student. I'll have four new students next weekend and the cycle begins again. A brief diversion from linear narrative brings me to my current small batch who are a couple of weeks away from taking the test and getting initiated. We spent half of today's class making sure they had covered all the material. The two chunks that they were missing will be made up during the reviews the next two meetings. We're going to do some intense reviews to make sure they know everything they need to know before taking the test. Vel wants to initiate them before Samhain.
The PPD meeting was good if scattered. We'll have one more meeting before the event and then let everything happen as it will. I've got a couple more tasks I didn't initially anticipate having. I'm going to have to cram them in sometime during this week.
After class today, Pete and I went to meet
lab_rattus and UFie ideur for lunch. King Buffet on Veterans is pretty good. They have a decent variety of Chinese, Japanese and American food. We ate and chatted.
lab_rattus had made a poignant trip back to her childhood home that was drowned in last year's flood. I hope our joking around left her in better spirits for the drive home to Pensacola.
When I got home, the Saints were ahead in the second half of the game. Pete, ideur and I divvied up the books
lab_rattus had brought and then I sat to watch the rest of the game with my sweetie,
hmc_lavadogs. We were happy when the Saints won. Right now, the Colts vs. Giants game is on and the Manning boys are making a good show of it.
I'm so tired. I feel like I got a lot accomplished though. Yeesh. There's so much to do and so little time to do it in.

Date: 2006-09-11 01:25 pm (UTC)Yeesh, fuel oil. Does anything in your current house use that stuff? I know a lot of older homes still use oil for heating. As expensive as it is, I trust electricity for everything in the house as opposed to oil or gas. Both of those fuels scare me.

Date: 2006-09-11 03:57 pm (UTC)If I wasn't using oil, I'd have had that tank removed ages ago. It takes up a LOT of space in the basement. The neighbors are currently digging theirs out of the ground (I can't imagine what that's costing them)
