If you could drop a beautiful idea for a Pagan short story in my head sometime in the next day or so, I would appreciate it. All I need is the framework of an idea and I'll embellish it hopefully to Your credit. So mote it be.

I picture a whirl-a-gig sort of time travel, accicdently occuring and teaching - whatever - as the person returns to the present?

Good luck. There's really a story in you somewhere - focus on a body part (eyes? ears?) and see what comes to mind.

Funny you should mention that. I've been thinking about a book I read a million years ago called House on the Strand by Daphne du Maurier that has an interesting twist on time travel. She's dead and her work is in the public domain. I've often thought of working on an homage to that particular book.

Correction, her work is NOT in the public domain. It's still under copyright and under control of her estate.

But you needn't use her work to write an homage. Perhaps it would be only her influence -- you know, one thought leads to another and the trains can go every which way.

I wonder how many stories either of us has read that were influenced by her --- betcha hundreds if not more!

I do not claim any esp, but this sort of thing happens often with/to me, sometimes with total strangers that I never again see or with friends. Something's in the air, eh?

Guess you've got a story line -- at least to start with :-)

It sounds like she kicks your ass constantly. I've already got two other writing projects and an editing project going. The thing is that this contest came up and there's a deadline so I've got to put those other three things on hold if I want to enter the contest. I only need a little something to get me going, not like your intense relationship with Nehalennia.

I'm thinking alternate history. You know I'm a Harry Turtledove fan.
Perhaps Louisiana doesn't secede or doesn't participate in reconstruction and Lab Rat becomes ruler/princess/queen/GHEMR of the Republic of Louisiana. It could happen.

Though that might be fun, it's not particularly Pagan so it wouldn't fit within the guidelines of the contest.

Well then, perhaps Louisiana, the Pagan Belt! :-)
You could have the North Louisiana baptist folks among others, peeing in their panties.

Good luck with the writing though.

I thought those evangelical fundies didn't wear undies. Seriously, I heard that the more hardcore fundies don't let their women wear drawers (too much like pants and men are the only ones who wear the pants in a family--bleargh) or cut their hair.

Why does it have to be Pagan in particular? If it does, can you use somebody's mythology as a jumping off point? Like the rivalry between Saraswati and Lakshmi (which is why artists/creative people are perpetually poor). I did a story in middle school where the Greek pantheon met the Norse pantheon...

It has to be Pagan for a contest. Yes, I can use established mythology but can't create fan fiction. I think something is germinating with the time travel angle.

Susan Pagan Kagan!
