Holy horseshit, Batman!
Jul. 21st, 2007 09:01 pmCan you say whirlwind? I feel like Dorothy back in Kansas waking up from a bender thinking, "What the hell was THAT?"
Week before last, I was up in Shreveport for our Disaster Recovery test. All of our workstations were fine. I made sure of that on Thursday. We have an assigned space in case we have to evacuate again. It's very nice. The test took place at the downtown office. Friday, we did some pretesting and we had to get one system up and running properly. Unfortunately, the building wasn't going to have air conditioning on Saturday. They brought in a bunch of box fans and we suffered. Not as much as if it was sunny and bright, though. It rained most of that day.
Our applications were fine. The one snag we had was in receiving files from another application. The person who was supposed to coordinate that said she didn't know she was supposed to provide the files. Duh, we'd called her several times before the test. Next time, we're gonna email and copy everyone and their cat. We were there most of the day Saturday and went back for an hour Sunday morning to see if they'd gotten that file transfer completed. At ten, my boss said bag it so I shutdown the computers and piled them up for transport back to their permanent home. I heard from another person that fifteen minutes after we left, the file came down the pike.
Oh, it was nice up there. The hotel had a pool that I was in almost every day. The bed was so nice that I didn't wake up in pain every morning the way I have for the past several months. I got to hang out with the Shreveport witches. They had their Pagans Night Out that Friday and a cookout the next evening. Mmmm, good food. The only fly in the ointment was the blowout my tire had on the way up. It went BLAM! and shredded onto the highway behind me just before Natchitoches. I saw the ribbon of rubber flapping in my rearview as I quickly pulled to the shoulder. I was lucky it wasn't raining. It was hot and humid and sunny as I loosened lug nuts, jacked the car up and swapped tires. Ten minutes later, I was on my way. My car gets phenomenal mileage. It only took one tank of gas to get up there and one tank back.
Monday, I was back at work and undergoing four days of training. I got a lot of good info, but yowsah the brain can get overloaded. I really didn't get a chance to relax until watching "Doctor Who" last night.
Today, we went to order a new mattress. Hubby had phoned the hotel and asked what kind they had. Turns out, they had a Simmons Beautyrest and I can't remember the model name. We got the one most comparable to it. I can't wait until it gets delivered.

Date: 2007-07-22 12:57 pm (UTC)The tire was changed in ten minutes shaving five minutes off the last time I did it. Not smoking may be having a much better effect on my health than I thought.
