Tired doesn't really cover how I feel right now. Considering the past two weeks I've had, it's a wonder I'm not keeling over.
The weekend of Pagan Pride Day started out with the Silent Supper on Friday. I ran there directly after work and didn't get home until 11:00-ish. The next day was the soiree at Esoterica in the evening. I baked quiches in mini-muffin tins. I can't remember if there were six or seven dozen of them. They were perfectly bite-sized and they were devoured utterly. I got home from that around midnight. The next morning, I had to go into work because they moved the server from Baton Rouge to Dallas. Everything checked out so I went on to Audubon Park for Pagan Pride Day. A bunch of us went to Vel's afterward to decompress and I got home around six or seven.

Of course, the workweek started out weird on Monday when the weather decided to give us a fuckload of rain. Flooding was everywhere. My backup lives on the Westbank and his neighborhood was flooding so I dutifully stayed and ran end of day Monday even though I usually skate at 5:00 so that I can get to my writers' group with enough time to stop home and decompress. The server move had slowed down the end of day to almost an hour and a half again. I ran home and checked my email to find that writers' group was cancelled due to weather. The rest of the week wasn't too horrible. I found out I'd have to go in on Sunday to make sure that the servers didn't change to Daylight Savings Time sooner than they should have. Eh, not a problem. Had our Samhain ritual that night and it was long, but the weather was perfect.

I kicked back and did housework for the first part of the week. Monday night writers' group was jam packed because we did all the critiques we missed the previous week. Most of us sounded breathless by the end. On Wednesday, I took hubby to his doctor appointment and then went to the park to witness a handfasting. It's a good thing I went because the couple didn't have anyone to take pictures. I cheerfully did snapshot duty. One of the shots was awesome; I caught them midair as they jumped the broom. After the wedding, I picked up hubby from the doctor and we went to the mall to buy the clothes he insisted I get to replace some of my wardrobe that looked ragged. That night, Anja had a labyrinth set up in her driveway so I went over there to walk it and trick or treat for alcohol. Mmm, wine.

Cemetery sweep Thursday. We were there almost four hours and barely made a dent. The Holt next to Delgado Community College is one of the sadder cemeteries in town. Headstones have fallen over. Sometimes the families can't afford a stone, so they resorted in one case to writing the deceased's statistics in magic marker on a cooler lid. The grounds didn't look like they'd been touched since the storm. Branches looked as though they had floated in and stayed put when the water receded. The weeds are thick. We got the weeds pulled from about a dozen graves, some of which were military veterans of every war of the previous century and the first war of this one. I saluted them all and tidied them up as best I could.

Three young guys came around and when Vel told him we were witches, he literally jumped and backed up. They scurried away fairly rapidly after that. Later when two women came by, we introduced ourselves and they introduced themselves. One was a professor of mortuary science at Delgado and those guys were her students. She was put out that they acted so badly toward us considering that we were there freely tending untended graves. When she found out that Vel had a forensic background, she asked her to guest lecture on Wiccan funerary practices. Later on, an older gentleman drove by with his wife, rolled down his window and asked what we had done. As I was sitting closest to him, I told him we'd cleaned up that section from there to there and I pointed. He still wanted to know why we were out there. It dawned on me that he thought we were being punished. I told him we weren't there doing community service under court order, that we were volunteers. He busted out laughing, his wife got the giggles and we all had a good laugh about that.

After the cemetery, we had a meeting with prospective students at the Shoneys on Veterans. They seem like a good batch. You really never know, though, until you get them in class. Statistically, a third will drop out and you often can't tell who those will be.

My old friend Sheila went to Sallie Ann's Day of the Dead ritual that night. Remarkably, they finished by 10:30. I can't remember another year they got done that early. Talk about a long-assed ritual. Hoo boy! I didn't see a certain person who reads my LiveJournal there. I even offered her a ride if she needed it. Though it was dark, I noticed that the yard looked better than it did last year and they got the house fixed up to liveable.

Yesterday, I cleaned my carpet downstairs and got my drivers license renewed. I'm really tired and sore from all the physical exertion. I'm such a desk jockey; I can't really hang with the running around much anymore.

Tomorrow, I have to go into the office to make sure the Daylight Savings Time did take effect. Then I have class and the Saints game. After that, one more evening before my vacation is gone. Back to work on Monday.

Hey you!!

Absolutely. This one year has aged me twenty ;-)
Still almost a year younger than the witch in question, though...

I wish I had gone. I got some sort of horrible cold/flu/plague-type hybrid a few days before ceremony and am just now getting well enough to be off of the sofa for more than a few minutes at a time. Thank you again for the offer to take me, though, and I'm pleased to read that everything went well.
