Chain mail from some flounder.
Mar. 17th, 2008 09:27 amI got some more idiotic chain mail I had to challenge and share with y'all. Yes, it's from the same source and she must get something out of goading me or she'd take me out of her distribution list.
Yes, Anonymous Internet Troll, I can see why you'd have trouble understanding why some would object to all the God references from our secular government. You cannot comprehend that 86% is not 100%. Maybe your mathematical education was lacking when you were in school. You cannot even see the difference between your perception of the graves of those valient citizens who became warriors for freedom and the reality. The painting on the back of the gentleman's jacket depicts crosses (as in the famous "Flanders Field" poem), but look a the ACTUAL graves. They are simple markers. I assure you, those simple markers are what you will find in most military cemeteries across this great land. Do you even know where Flanders Field is, Anonymous Internet Troll? It's in Europe. I'm sure your education is also lacking in the area of geography as well.
And I'm here to inform you that you are woefully uninformed in the subjects of civics and government. Do you know what all those brave men and women in the military were fighting for? Our freedom. Our liberty. Our Constitution, which they all pledged to defend when then enlisted. They are not defending or promulgating your God. They are not performing some Christian version of jihad. By defending our Constitution, they are ensuring that foolish notions that the United States is a Christian nation never receive the weight of law, because the opposite is true.
Though our Founders were men of great intellect and virtue, they were not perfect. However, they did provide an elegant framework for any nation dedicated to liberty to flourish within. That framework is the Constitution. Many matters are discussed in the Constitution, but religion is expressly forbidden from being established the way you Anonymous Internet Trolls long for it to be. Since you don't seem to have much regard for the Constitution and our American way of life, you are free to emigrate to some country that is a theocracy. In case your English skills are also not up to par, a theocracy is a government that is run by a religion, such as Saudi Arabia and Iran. You're in luck because they follow the same monotheistic path that you do, except that they call God "Allah," which means God in Arabic. You'll love it, unless you like to drink alcohol or are a woman or maybe just aren't as devout as the average Muslim.
Oh Anonymous Internet Troll, you don't know much history either, do you? Maybe you were never taught or maybe you never had enough curiosity to research for yourself. The Pledge of Allegiance was written in 1892 by Rev. Francis Bellamy, a Baptist minister, and it went, "I pledge allegiance to my Flag and the Republic for which it stands, one nation, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all." What do you NOT notice in that pledge? That's right, "under God" and "of the United States of America" don't appear. I wonder where those phrases came from and why Rev. Bellamy didn't include them when he originally wrote it. The "of the United States of America" was added in 1923 and 1924 to ensure that immigrants knew which flag and which country they were pledging allegiance to. The "under God" wasn't added until 1954 during the height of the Red Scare and communist hunting of Sen. Joseph McCarthy.
Are you of the opinion that the Greatest Generation who fought World War II weren't as good of Americans as we are today because they didn't recite "under God" when they said the pledge? Their parents who fought World War I weren't either? Those same people whose blood was shed in defense of our liberty? I believe you are sadly mistaken. Those people were brave in ways that none of us with our easy lives can comprehend. They fought against tyranny while we embrace it with mindless rubbish like you spout. You will also find that the Founders of this country devised ways to prevent the tyranny of the majority from being imposed on the minority and interfering in their liberty. So that 86% you cite means nothing if it would interfere in the liberty of others which it does.
Well, Anonymous Internet Troll, since you have the Internet, you could also easily discovered these things with any search engine. Google the Constitution. Read it. Google the National Anthem. Read those words. Google the Pledge or the Flag and find out what they all really mean and not just some jingoistic rubbish you heard from some radio talk show host. You choose not to be informed. That is your right, but it is also my right to call you out on it. I am also willing to say so not under the cover of anonymity, but publicly and bravely like my forebears who fought in those wars and defended our Constitution.

What a sight .... what a message!!!!!![]()
I PLEDGE ALLEGIANCE TO THE FLAG, OF THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA, AND TO THE REPUBLIC, FOR WHICH IT STANDS, ONE NATION UNDER GOD, INDIVISIBLE, WITH LIBERTY AND JUSTICE FOR ALL!
I was asked to send on if I agree or delete if I don't. It is said that 86% of Americans believe in God.
Therefore I have a very hard time understanding why there is such a problem in having 'In God! We Trust' on our money and having 'God' in the Pledge of Allegiance. I believe it's time we stand up for what we believe!
PLEASE KEEP THIS GOING,
EVEN IF YOU HAVE PASSED IT ON BEFORE!!

Date: 2008-03-17 03:50 pm (UTC)As someone who DOES believe in God, I suppose I should be astounded at just how stupid these people are. Then I look at the environment they are raised in, and dejectedly realize that it will be a perpetual battle. The preachers of the world will always try to get their hooks into politics. Not because it's "what God wants!" like they claim, but because it's what THEY want. They want power, plain and simple. And they are NOT shy about using the faith that others have and manipulating it to their own ends.
Religion and politics should never mix. Just like matter and anti-matter. If the Religious Right keeps this up, they're going to cause the country to asplode.

Date: 2008-03-17 06:18 pm (UTC)All these people who supposedly know WJCW: didn't Christ tell the people: "Give to Ceasar what is Caesar's and to God what is God's"? Caesar is thought to stand for "government." My point: even Christ separated God from state!
But I betcha Anonymous Internet Troll never sees these words and if s/he did see or hear them, would not get them.
