Girl Scout Camp Windigo had some juvenile entertainment and this joke smells as bad as a damp swimsuit after a dip in the lake: An old woman is sitting home in the evening when the phone rings. "Bloody fingers! I'm six blocks away." The line goes dead. She hangs up and goes back to her knitting or watching wrestling or masturbating or whatever she was doing. The phone rings again. "Bloody fingers! I'm five blocks away." And so on freaking her progressively out until the doorbell rings. Amazingly, the old broad goes to the door without her knitting needles or a fireplace poker or baseball bat and opens it, spying her grandlarva on the porch. "Grandma! Do you have a Band-aid?" I have tried to forget this stupid joke for decades, but it clings like a velcro leech to my cerbral cortex.

I have a box of stuff for work in my car. The gas tank is three-quarters full. We'll pack tomorrow morning and wait for the call. I fully expect to be sitting in Shreveport Sunday night. Monday I will have to go into our facility up there and ensure complete functionality of all the computers we'll be using Tuesday morning. Then I can go back to the hotel or hang out with Trixie and the coven up there. They will take care of us. When I talked to Mike, there was mention of consuming a tasty, cooked dead animal and visiting.

We've got to either eat what's in the fridge before we leave or fit it all into the cooler. I hope the hotel room is a suite with a fridge and a microwave...and complimentary breakfast. And I need a data line since I'm taking the computer with me. The cats are going to yowl for the first hundred miles. I'm hoping traffic doesn't suck too hard. As long as the hotel's close to the facility and comfortable, I'll be happy. I heard that some of our people were being sent as far away as across the Texas border up by Marshall. Yeesh. On a positive note, I'll be forced to write to destress from the chaos.

Phone just rang and it was my boss. We'll be in the same hotel as I stayed in the first time I went up. Good. I know my way around that neighborhood and it's close to the worksite. Hooray. We can leave tomorrow since the rooms are booked starting tomorrow night. I'll be in and out while I pack and get organized.

I'm not going to wait any longer than I have to. The traffic is going to be insane and I'll need a stiff drink by the time we arrive. I'm packing clothes right now. As soon as the load in the washer is done and through the dryer, the luggage will go into the car.

I'll be thinking of you

You should be thinking about skating. It might take a jog to the west. Go to your mom's.

Good luck and safe travels. I'll probably be riding it out here in Metairie unless it turns back eastward. The more I see it track and get info, the more I think this will be a Houma/Westbank storm. I have alternate plans in Mobile/Biloxi/Gulfport and elsewhere if needed.

Be safe and skate outa here if it looks like a direct hit. Even if it does go to the west, that means we'll be getting the worst of the wind and rain.

In the meantime, I stirred up a shitstorm over on the [livejournal.com profile] neworleans community.

Agreed. I'll be taking US 90 out if needed ('f' contraflow). There's actually an extreme outside chance I'll be needed in Baton Rouge as some spot tech (GIS) help at the Emergency Center.

Saw the storm. Remember to breathe. ;)

Oh, not again... I hope this time it'll not be as devastating, and hopefully blow over before it hits any densely populated areas.

Stay safe, kiddo. I'm glad that you have a place to evac to. Arkansas EOC is on alert, and our governor has acquired funding to help out evacuees and reopened Fort Chaffee, among other places. Arkansas is becoming a popular destination for 'emergency vacations', it seems.

I hope it all turns out ok! And I heard that joke a lot as a kid, but it always ended in some creepy dead person coming up the stairs and killing everyone as the person telling the story grabbed someone's leg, lol. Maybe that's the boy's version.

God that is moving fast ... it has tightened up considerably and will steam across the gulf ... its not as widespread as Katrina was, but it looks evil just the same.
Please tell me you didnt wait :P

You or Labrat either one are welcome here if you need a place to crash, it's not much, but it has AC and some movies to watch while I'm at work.

I have to face it, I would suck as a host, but it's a place.
