Gustav reminds me of a bad joke.
Aug. 29th, 2008 09:27 pmGirl Scout Camp Windigo had some juvenile entertainment and this joke smells as bad as a damp swimsuit after a dip in the lake: An old woman is sitting home in the evening when the phone rings. "Bloody fingers! I'm six blocks away." The line goes dead. She hangs up and goes back to her knitting or watching wrestling or masturbating or whatever she was doing. The phone rings again. "Bloody fingers! I'm five blocks away." And so on freaking her progressively out until the doorbell rings. Amazingly, the old broad goes to the door without her knitting needles or a fireplace poker or baseball bat and opens it, spying her grandlarva on the porch. "Grandma! Do you have a Band-aid?" I have tried to forget this stupid joke for decades, but it clings like a velcro leech to my cerbral cortex.
I have a box of stuff for work in my car. The gas tank is three-quarters full. We'll pack tomorrow morning and wait for the call. I fully expect to be sitting in Shreveport Sunday night. Monday I will have to go into our facility up there and ensure complete functionality of all the computers we'll be using Tuesday morning. Then I can go back to the hotel or hang out with Trixie and the coven up there. They will take care of us. When I talked to Mike, there was mention of consuming a tasty, cooked dead animal and visiting.
We've got to either eat what's in the fridge before we leave or fit it all into the cooler. I hope the hotel room is a suite with a fridge and a microwave...and complimentary breakfast. And I need a data line since I'm taking the computer with me. The cats are going to yowl for the first hundred miles. I'm hoping traffic doesn't suck too hard. As long as the hotel's close to the facility and comfortable, I'll be happy. I heard that some of our people were being sent as far away as across the Texas border up by Marshall. Yeesh. On a positive note, I'll be forced to write to destress from the chaos.
Phone just rang and it was my boss. We'll be in the same hotel as I stayed in the first time I went up. Good. I know my way around that neighborhood and it's close to the worksite. Hooray. We can leave tomorrow since the rooms are booked starting tomorrow night. I'll be in and out while I pack and get organized.
