I just now returned to the computer after going downstairs to make pie dough. I left the computer shortly after 8:00 pm and went to the kitchen. I had laid all my utensils and containers out earlier. The only thing I needed to do was grab all the cold ingredients out of the fridge. I got the dry stuff out on the counter, then I noticed the crock pot was schmutzy from the red beans hubby made yesterday. I dragged it over to the sink and started scrubbing the schmutz off. Then I realized I didn't have my previous copy of the recipe. I came upstairs and quickly copied it from the Food Channel website. Then I went back downstairs and noticed that nobody had filled the sugar canister. I emptied the better portion of the five-pound bag of sugar into the canister and refilled the small tub we have for coffee and cereal and such. I was on my way to refilling the salt and pepper shakers when I remembered I was supposed to be making pie dough.

Once I got back into the groove of pie dough, I finished quickly. I would have been done within a half an hour if all the other crap didn't sidetrack me. What the hell is that about and how can I avoid it in the future? Am I doomed or suffering from early senility? I suspect I've been this way a long while because I have had similar trouble most of my life. Focusing on one task is difficult when there's so much to do.

Have you been tested for ADD? I'm being serious. I'm saying this because you've had this trouble for a long time.

I don't think there's any cure, unfortunately...I'd get so much more of my *own* stuff done at work...

Oh, tell me about it. I get distracted all the time - especially if the main task I have in hand is one I don't particularly wish to do.

Take cleaning my house. I don't know how my cleaner lady does it in four hours. I cleaned it this Thursday and it took me from about 10AM to about 10PM. Seriously. And it's not as if I was doing it fanatically. I didn't even do the bath tub and the kitchen sink. But it was just like you say. Suddenly I saw that I needed to shine my shoes. Or suddenly I needed to go shopping for groceries and then I had to put them away. And I needed a rest from time to tim.

I urgently need a way to manage time better. So if you find a trick to it, please pass it on - and I will do the same, obviously.

I know that feeling all too well. You'd think my house would be immaculate since I'm not working, alas no. It amazes me how easily I get sidetracked.

Meh...I've embraced it. I can focus when I absolutely have to, but otherwise I look at it like a boat ride; the tide will get me there, and I'll do a bunch of little things that have to be done along the way.

It's good to be 52.

I AM A WORM...

That was me who did not fill the sugar container or the salt and pepper shakers and probably a host of other things my love did not mention. I am a worm, I humbly beg for your forgiveness. I hope I made it up to you just a little, late last night...yum yum...

Your love,
HMC LAVADOG
