Accountability update 2.0
Feb. 1st, 2009 03:16 pmBeginning of February, this is my second update:
Finish at least one chapter of Ruxandra every month. (I submitted one chapter to my Monday group. I'm halfway through another one.)
Configure two complete computers for gifts. (Still no progress.)
Scavenge attic for yard sale items. (One Storall box full of junk ready to go next Saturday. I'm going to look around to see if I can get rid of some more stuff.)
Rid myself of twenty more pounds. (Still haven't looked.)
Reassess wardrobe and ditch rarely worn items. (I tossed two pairs of pants I can't wear anymore. There's still more to do.)
Keep my budget spreadsheet updated every month. (I'm color coding it and updating it whenever I pay bills or get paid. I'm still doing well and am on track with it.)
Totally pay off two debts. (I've scheduled repeating payments in my online banking. I'll have two of them paid off in about six months.)
Apply for grants for the museum. (I still need to go to the library to find appropriate foundations to apply to. I've got all the forms and started filling them out. I've got a book I'm reading through to get a general idea of where to start.)
Submit one of my vampire short stories everywhere until it gets published. (During the same library trip, I will find two or three markets to submit to. No further progress.)
Organize all writing projects and don't start any more until ones in progress are finished. (I've organized them in my computer. I need to get the printed copies organized. No further progress.)
Paint the closets upstairs. (No progress.)
Follow up with publisher for my ethics book. If the first one passes, submit elsewhere. (I've been waiting for Mercury to go direct again which it did today. I'll send an email tonight after the Superbowl or sometime early in the week.)
All of these things are important to me so I need to continue to make progress. I'm realizing that I can't make progress on everything simultaneously. I can focus on a few things and make headway with them. I'd hate to think what the president is facing on a daily basis. That's one of the reasons I started this: to remember to have empathy for him and not expect the moon and stars immediately. I am one person with a handful of goals. He is one person with a plethora of goals in a myriad of bureaus, agencies, committees and legislatures, and that's just on the domestic front. Repairing the country's tarnished reputation internationally will take a herculean effort to rival the domestic cleanup.
