Hey! I leaving for Florida tomorrow. I will gmail you my new numbers. Hope you are well. I think I lost around 10lbs. Oh, well, I'll be ready for the beach then.
It seems as though you'll never be able to return to your home. Sheltered as I am I'm not hearing anything about a timetable for cleanup to start let alone allowing anyone to return to the city. It's like they're considering bulldozing over it or something.
Do you have a plan for starting over somewhere else?
I AM going home. I have a home to go to. We got no water and very little wind damage. I don't want to live anywhere else. I want to go back and help somehow with the rebuilding. I can paint; I can help drywall; I can do some damned thing or another to be useful.
It's nice out here in Alexandria, but I miss my own stuff and neighborhood. As soon as water and electricity are restored, I'm headed back. They won't bulldoze my place. I'm also avid for holding the government responsible for those who weren't rescued in a timely manner. I'm now a crusader.
For those who are not in New Orleans, the city is not gone. My area, like NolaWitch, had very little damage. The news is showing the worst part of the city. I for one have a theory why they are showing the worst of the city. One, they want to justify getting rid of all the poor people. Two, they don't want anyone coming into the nicer, unharm area of the city. It's the rich people nice little secret.
I myself live uptown New Orleans on St Charles Ave. Already people in my area are talking about being thrown out of their places so the landlords can get more money from the rich peole who are staying in the area. Money talks and the poor must walk. They are also talking about bulldozing the poorest parts of the city. Nice sneaky way to make sure the poor does not have a home to come home to.
There is a big debate about the way Algeirs, LA handled things just after the flood. A little summary. People from the Superdome and Convention were told to cross the bridge into Algiers. The police blocked them from entering their 95% white community. The crowd trying to enter was 99% black. According to the lady and man on TV, there were 3 white people and a 100+ black people. When the crowd attempted to ignor the Gretna Police, they shot in the air and pointed the guns at the group and told them they would shoot to kill. The Gretna police chief is not saying I'm sorry. Just last night he defended the police force. Reason, they did not have the resources for these (poor black) people. There was a reference made to them destroying their previous homes (Superdome and Convention Center) and he was not letting them in his city to destroy it too.
When he was qustioned about "destroy"? He answered, they left the places (their temp home) filty. They raped, beat, shot and killed their own and they looted the stores. This is just one story. In other areas, neighborhoods are forbidding entry to the remaining poor too. The NEW New Orleans seems to be heading in that direction. Parts of the city will never be the same.

You have more experience at disaster preparedness than that idiot Brown, who should follow the monkey right to prison for murder.
Ahem, it pisses me everytime I think about it.
