Air conditioner: on or off?

I'm cleaning like a fiend and it's hot as blazes in here. It's also a warm and sunny day. I've got all the windows open and the fans oscillating. I've got tunes cranking on the stereo. No complaints about living in a place where that is the question on December 31st.

I don't mind the occasional (or, indeed, frequent) spell of sunshine, but any climate where an air conditioner is considered a basic, essential appliance is too hot for me.

And even driving in snow is tolerable *if* a) it's proper snow, not ice or half-thawed slush, b) the car has decent tyres and is in good condition, and c) if it weren't for those people who drive like complete maniacs. But those are around even when it's not snowing, so it doesn't really matter.

It's good to see all the "stop gloating because it's warmer where you are!" posts balanced by some *gloats because it's colder where I am* ones. :-)
