That was fun.
Aug. 27th, 2006 05:56 pmGot over to
goddessmusings and
drgndancer's house at 9:30 this morning. We painted their master bedroom because there was too much stuff in the guest room and it seemed easier to start there. The top two-thirds of the walls are taupe. Yes, taupe. That strangely odd flesh color that panty hose come in. The bottom third, which is wainscoting, is a coagulated blood red. Very nice. Next weekend, we're going to do all the trim white and presumably get to the guest bedroom and kitchen.
I fully expect to be achy tomorrow from all the painting, but it was so worth it. Maybe I can cajole them to take pictures next weekend when it's done and post in their journals. The hallway, which she did by herself, is a very pale gold color that echos the bolder gold of the living/dining room color beautifully. It will be a showplace after all the work gets done and will be easy to sell.
I'm happy for them that they both found good jobs. It's sad for us that their swell jobs had to be in Lafayette. They're already clutched to the bosom of the Easy Bake Coven out there, so I know they're going to be with good people. I'm selfish as hell and will miss them greatly. Don't tell them, though. I don't want my reputation as a hardass to be ruined by some weepy sentimentality.
I like to paint. There's something satisfying to my core to coat flat surfaces with new color. I get to experience it vicariously since I wouldn't use some of those colors myself. Their purple bathroom is totally awesome. I can't wait to do the sage green in the kitchen. Green is such a warm and peaceful color. I'm truly glad I can be of some small assistance. They have a lot to get done before they can show the house and it will likely sell rapidly in this market. Tack onto the fresh coat of paint and the other little improvements the fact that it has historic value and it will go like hotcakes. The historic value is that the 38th mayor of New Orleans lived and died in that house.
Not much else got done this weekend. Pete and I finished another Frankensystem loaded with Mandriva and ready to go to replace the slower system David currently has. Then the Saints played the Colts.
I got a drunken phone call from Mike M. in Indianapolis. Despite being a Republican born to a family of Republicans, he had to back down on every political point I argued with him. When he started talking about "old times", I'd change the subject. I don't want to hear his moaning about what he thinks should have been. I've told him that if we'd stayed together, we would have made each other miserable. I can't imagine how horrible my life would have been right now if I hadn't taken the path I did and ended up with
hmc_lavadogs here in New Orleans.
The season finale of Deadwood is tonight. I hope they either drive off or kill off Hearst. He's a huge pain in the ass for everybody in the camp. I prefer the smaller dramas that happen between the regulars and it will be nice to see Bullock not angry for a change.

Date: 2006-08-28 12:10 am (UTC)I'll have the crap pulled out of the guest room before you come next weekend and have everything taped up. That way we can just launch into painting. I'll try to do the same for the kitchen too. I'm planning to start packing some of the stuff up as soon as we get back. We are renting a storage unit up there this week and taking some stuff with us this trip.
