My poor aching head.
Sep. 28th, 2006 12:40 pmEither the monitor is getting shonky or my hearing is improving. I've been hearing the fly-back in the monitor now for a week or so. I used to be able to hear it when I was young, but years of loud rock music put the damper on that...so I thought. There are a lot of electrical sounds I can hear while I'm at work. Right now, some fuckwit's alarm is going off and driving me crazy. There, it stopped. I don't see how they could have let it go for the fifteen minutes it did without doing something about it. Loud and obnoxious. There is probably a tension headache in my afternoon from all the racket.
I had a couple of pieces of chocolate from Switzerland courtesy of
saminz. It was a lovely package of goodies she sent. I started to eat a few last night, but I got a call from Anja saying she had a test batch of confection for the Samhain Dance she wanted me to try. Mmmm, gelatin brains and eyeballs spiked with alcohol. They were very good. The eyeballs looked realistic and will be a fun thing to nibble on between shaking booty at the VFW hall in October.
hmc_lavadogs and I are going to go to some museums Saturday because they're free. He hasn't ever been to the Aquarium of the Americas so we're going there. He wanted to go to New Orleans Museum of Art, but that's not on the free list. We'll probably end up going to the World War II Museum (formerly the D-Day Museum) to see what new exhibits they've put together. The last time we were there was for the opening of the Pacific Theater exhibit. Since my dad was stationed in the Pacific, I was very interested in that part. Plus, it's always nice to visit my dad's brick on the sidewalk outside. It has his name, his rank, his hometown and notes that he got a Purple Heart. He'd like that.
There's a bunch of stuff I need to get caught up this weekend. Since I got a new toner cartridge for my printer, I need to finish printing out the lessons for my students. The downstairs needs to be vacuumed and my altar really could use a cleaning. It's dusty and there's a bunch of ash from incense all over the front. I've promised the writers' group to bring in the first wedding scene from my book so they could critique it no matter how crappy it is...and it is. Ah, well. I suppose I should just slam out any old crap until I get the first murder victim killed off. If there's anything that's true about writing, it's that there are usually several layers of rewriting involved. I also need to take the collected newspapers to the SPCA to make them useful and get them the hell out of my foyer. I'd also like to try to get my closet weeded out and the castoffs taken to Goodwill.
hmc_lavadogs needs to go through his clothes too. Once I get the clothes weeded out, I'll paint in there. It doesn't look like it's been painted since the place was built. The office is a lost cause. Until I get an empty Saturday where Pete and I can just go through all the computer stuff, put together a few Frankensystems that work and get them out into the hands of people who could use them, the mess will remain. After Samhain, I'm going to tackle cleaning out the attic. By then, I'll be down to one batch of students as the previous batch will be initiated. I'm too busy to be exhausted.
