The final rehearsal for the play was last Friday evening. I didn't do jack shit all day that day because I knew I was going to be running like a hamster in a wheel all weekend long. We had a couple of good readings. Mary, who was in the writers' group for a long time before getting hella busy in her work and personal life, came by to watch the rehearsal. I should have given her back one of her stories, but I didn't think of it at the time. All the rehearsing paid off because Sunday in Houma we won the competetion.

I shooed everyone out of the house after class and got to the parking lot of the church to meet Teena and her husband to ride down with them. The theater is cozy and the lighting was decent. We luckily got chosen to go first. The others weren't thrilled, but we set the pace for the other two contestants to measure up to. Rebecca was nervous. After all the edits and the rehearsals, she still kept seeing room for improvement. Fortunately, we paid attention to the instructions for the Readers Theater. We only had one prop and didn't do any stage business. We read the play and let it stand on its merits. The other two casts had props and comings and goings. Unfortunately, one of them didn't understand blocking which resulting in an actor having his back to the audience. He also didn't have a strong voice, so none of us heard much of his dialog. That play had a lot of good stuff in it, but they rushed through the dialog or didn't project enough for us to hear it. The other one was somewhat better rehearsed and one of the actors had experience, but since they were trying to pantomime some of the performance, they lost their place a time or two. After all the plays were over, we waited. The coordinator said, "I'm going to announce the third place winner and then I'll talk about the other two." Apparently, we won by one point. Rebecca got copies of the scoring/comment sheets, but we won't see those until she comes back from her Alaskan cruise in a week or so. A win is a win.

Pagan Pride Day was a success. There were close to fifty people attending. The raffles went well. We made a good bit of money to donate. Everyone ate. There weren't many leftovers. The place was clean when we left since I had insisted on putting trash bags into the cans that ringed the shelter. The band was fun. The speakers were great. Nobody got sunburned and the full moon ritual that Mary and Anwnn wrote was wonderful. I had to shoo everyone out at the end because Pagans don't know when to go home.

When I got home Saturday, I had to run out to Mama's in Kenner to pick up some chicken stew she'd made for us. I was glad to get it because my feet were sore and I was too tired to cook.

Sunday review class was a whirlwind. We went through everything in the last part of the book. Velvet stopped by to drop off the test and pick up the money from PPD. I hated like hell to have to toss everyone out. I also hated like hell to miss the Saints game. When I got back from Houma, [livejournal.com profile] hmc_lavadogs had recorded the game so we watched it together. Wow! A win is a win for the Saints too. They'd better work on their plays since they're going up against the Eagles next week. Those guys looked good in their game over the weekend.

Monday, I signed up with a temp agency. Of course, my testing scores were above average. I hope they come up with some work until I can find the right niche for my talents. I've been going through Monster and Craigslist applying for stuff online. Keep casting out the bait and see what bites.

Writers' group was good last night. We had a new person want to join. I tossed Chapter 4 of Ruxandra into the hopper. I didn't like it, but let them have at it and make suggestions while I get Dragomir's character killed off in Chapter 7.

After Studio 60, [livejournal.com profile] lab_rattus called. She said she was coming in to town this weekend. While she was talking to me, she got another call on her cell phone and asked to call that person back. I saw on the UF board today that she was talking to RetiQlum and fell and hurt her shoulder to the point where she had to go to the hospital for surgery. I hope she's alright. I'm pretty sure she's not coming to town this weekend.

I think that's all the news fit to type in my journal.

Hi!

Just poked my head in to see what was up with friends, and saw your entry - sounds like things are going well! Conga-rats on the win.
OMG (or do you say OMGs to pagans? ;-) That "Pagans just don't know when to go home" line cracked me up... I wanna put it on a t-shirt ;-)

Hope you are doing well - {{{NOLA}}}

heh, just realized my wife was in your namesake city today - got diverted from Houston. Still hoping she'll make it home tonight...

peace,

Lobo

Busy weekend. Was the play an original one? Congrats on the win.

This weekend I'm going to a writer's workshop at my alma mater and taking the SF class, taught by my English professor who taught a SF (reading/critique) class 25 years ago. It will be fun to see her again and catch up a bit on our lives.

So are you enjoying Studio 60 as much as I am? I am so glad Sorkin has a gig again. I missed him like hell on the West Wing

Yeah, the play was original. Rebecca had worked on it for about a year with the writers' group. I couldn't believe she asked me to read her main character. During the parts where the character is crying over her lost son, I put this quaver in my voice and did it as dramatically as I could. I could feel that if I put any extra effort, I would have really been crying. That was pretty interesting.

Have fun in the class. I'm going to work like hell on my novel while I'm not working.

I like Studio 60 a lot. Sorkin needs to keep working until he retires so that those of us who appreciate his work can enjoy it.
