The Dump got published and I made a minor amount of scratch from it. Very interesting.

Strange how the country is mawkishly fawning over the Virginia Tech massacre. The same number of people were killed in Iraq yesterday. More people are killed across the country daily by auto accidents.

My dear hubby just made an interest point. The older professor who was shot as he blocked the door did so from a standing position whereas the students who blocked the door with their feet were all on the floor making the bullets miss them. In a strange way, all the violence they had seen on TV and in movies saved their lives as they knew not to stand up against the door where the shooter would inevitably fire his weapon.

That's all I've got. I'm working on more writing to sell.

Well Said

I'm going to say something that I feel you'd be able to hear without compromising being true to yourself.

I read what you write here, and was concerned that your venting (as you do it here) might cloud your message. And yes, I understand, I dump stress the same way, my mentors are overwhelmed at times.

This is exactly what you need to be doing. I'll be the one reading, watching to see when you get comfortable so that you feel freer to express your opinion more strongly, they way you do here. Yea, learning to express anger in a more literary way, it's something I still struggle with, it makes me feel almost ashamed.

Your perspective is very clear, your anger in check, let the words come. You're finding such a great niche, I'd love to be in your shoes with your talent.

Even if man-made global warming doesn't exist...

Personally, I don't feel the evidence for man-made global is weighty enough to prove it's there. I'm still a tree-hugging, but gun-toting, greener. Even if man-made global warming doesn't exist, I can't see how anyone would think it's a good idea to dump crap into the environment. At the very least it's insanely wasteful. There are most definitely detrimental local effects. At the very worst, we could be destroying civilization and tons of cute fluffy critters and pretty plants.

Look at Wal-Mart. A corporate policy for being environmentally friendly didn't happen because it was the right thing to do for cute little bunnies. They started a green initiative out of pure greed. Reducing energy consumption saves money. Reducing waste saves money. Planting vegetation on the roof? Saves energy and helps stop leaks which at the very least require cleanup and maintenance and at worst destroys merchandise and gives a starting point for moronic "oops I slipped on teh water cuz I didn't know it was slipree" lawsuits.

Be Greedy. Be Green.

Nice analogy, and generally a great introduction of the subject!

Lecturing people on detailed ways to reduce their output would not go down too well here - but it might be news still to your readers, after all :-).

(I really resented that "furniture" link - but I'm sure that's just because I was expecting something highly clever behind it and only found out after clicking that it wasn't "your" link at all ;-)!)

Congrats!!

Very well put.

"The dump" is well written and says exactly what I would have IF I could have! Congratulations and keep writing; what you wrote is needed.

Re: VT was a horrible event made worse by incessant media attention. I had turned on the tv for a regular program which was pre-empted on the 2nd day. A student was asked (I don't recall if it was NBC or ABC) what was the hardest thing to cope with. Her answer was: the media hounding them with incessant questions and not allowing them the time needed to grieve, mourn andcome to terms with it all.
