Are things looking up?
May. 10th, 2005 10:07 pmI had an interview today. I'm clearly qualified for all aspects of the job. There is phone support, purchasing, RMA tracking, administrative assistance and scheduling involved. I was glad to be on the initial long list. I hope I make the short list and get called back for a second interview. I shmoozed the department head pretty nicely after I noticed he was an LSU grad. He's going to make a decision and hire someone before he leaves on business on May 20th.
I got a new used chair for my desk. Fake leather. Very nice. The cats have shown no interest whatsoever in clawing it to shreds so far.
I've got a Frankensystem to finish tomorrow so that Nancy can drag it up to Indiana with her when she leaves Friday. She brought her friend's system down with her and it was dead as a doornail. No POST. No beeps. The CPU didn't even warm up. It was an old Pentium 166Mhz so I replaced it with a 400Mhz motherboard, bigger hard drive and put her original hard drive in as a secondary and put her video, modem and sound cards back in.
I've got my sister-in-law's system ready to go. I'm picking up a monitor from a coven mate tomorrow evening. All sister-in-law has to do is get a desk and chair from a thrift store somewhere and I'll go over and set her up. She's got a 266Mhz CPU, 64Mb RAM, an 8Gb hard drive, 2Mb video card, sound card, modem and a CD-R. I've got speakers, a keyboard, mouse and inkjet printer for her as well.
After that, I'm going to reload another Frankensystem's software and gather all the necessary stuff together to give to a guy in my writers' group next Monday. I need to get some of this computer stuff the hell out of this house. I want some floor space back in my office so I can dance in here again.

Date: 2005-05-11 01:35 pm (UTC)You could easily find people to donate your FrankenMacs to. Ask around your social circle first. If that doesn't bear fruit, call a battered women's shelter. Often those families have escaped abusive situations with little but the clothes on their backs and would be grateful for a computer once they get resettled away from their abusers. You could also check with Habitat for Humanity. They provide housing, but nothing in the way of technological niceties.
