Five o'clock was far too early this morning. Drumming and singing out at the lake was nice, though. After ritual, I brought Nathan back home so he could finish packing to go see his parents in Baton Rouge. I dropped him a Le Pavilion downtown before I went to work.

I am officially exhausted. Nathan didn't get here last Friday due to some travel SNAFU. Last Saturday was busy as hell. I took the recycle to turn in at Elmwood then came home to do computer stuff with Pete and wait for Nathan to call. His plane got in mid-morning. While he acclimated, Pete and I configured exactly one computer. We went throught the setup about three times with the latest and greatest (although I suspect incomplete) version of Mandriva. The damned thing wouldn't load printer drivers and properly configure. It was on a single CD, so I think it was some sort of demo version. I finally scrounged up the 2006 version of Mandriva and loaded that. Sometime after five, after we had fought with that one system pretty much all day, Pete said he had to skate so he could deal with a personal issue. Hubby, Nathan and I then went to see "Harold and Kumar Escape from Guantanmo Bay" after the Hornets game was over. After that, we went to the Quarter to the Dungeon until 2:00 am.

Sunday, Nathan and I sat in on Vel's class. One of the new members had invited everyone to a barbeque afterwards. Off we went across the river to Luling to eat the huge pile of dead meat on Ronnie and Lindy's grill. It's one of those grills you can see from space when it's fired up. A suckling pig could fit easily into it for a feast. During the rain, we sat under the carport and generally enjoyed the food and fellowship.

The river was so high as we crossed the Huey P. Long Bridge. I've never seen it so high before. I've also never been so glad for the earthen levees before. Riding along River Road, I knew that the waterline was well above the top of my little car's roof. The Corps(e) of Engineers needs to abandon those stupid retaining walls and construct earthen levees everywhere. The earthen levees didn't fail; those pathetic "walls" they kept referring to as levees failed.

Monday was a rush to work and then a rush to writers' group after work. Tuesday was another rush to work and then home to entertain Nathan until after the Hornets game when he and hubby went back to the Quarter without me so they could go to a strip club. I spent the quiet time watching Monday's new episode of "House" which cracked me the hell up.

We were supposed to go out to dinner last night with the older witches, but Vel's son found two burned corpses in a car returned to the rental company he works for. That freaked him out pretty badly. Since his wife is pregnant, he went to his mother to decompress from that horror. There's a lot of horseshit involved in the story, not the least of which includes incompetence by NOPD. I don't know the half of it, but I know more than the local reporters had on the air by dinner time. Ugh.

Tonight, I've caught up on my newspaper reading. I'm still running a cat petting deficit. Neither of the kitties had enough time to warm up to Nathan. They were scarce while I was hanging out with him. Once I lay down to sleep tonight, I'm expecting to be a major cat magnet. I didn't get much writing done either. This Saturday, I'm going to run errands early, maybe even get some of them done tomorrow after work, and then clear the mental decks for nothing but writing. I've seriously got to get the awful proposal done. I've got to stop thinking of it as awful too. Maybe I'm too tired to think. It's not even 9:00 and my eyelids are sagging.

Meh. Stick a fork in me; I'm done.

I have to start making room again

Cripes. Your schedule is starting to sound like Nea's :-).

Hope you got a good long sleep!

I don't know how she does it. She's always got a heaping load of stuff on her plate and still manages to keep up with the San Francisco Giants.

I didn't get enough sleep. I'm still tired as hell. I had every intention of running at least one errand last night after I got home from work and before Doctor Who came on. I sat in the car for a minute and said, "Fuck it." I ran all the errands this morning partly in the rain.

Yes, it had to rain because this is a Jazz Fest weekend and what would that be like without mud to greet tourists?

Oh, dear. That sounds bad...
I remember planning errands right up to this "Fuck it" moment :-).

Sad about that rain, too. I hope you get a good load of tourists anyway, of course.
And that it's at least warm enough.

That rental car business is completely out there, indeed. Don't they even check who's it is, at the very least?! Because if nothing else, it can't be legal to burn your car wherever you please, can it...? Even if you don't really count on it containing - yuck...

I need to start hanging out with older witches again, too.

I can't imagine working at a car rental place and having to deal with burned corpses. Gah.

They usually find crack pipes and trash in returned cars. This was the first time a burned out car had been returned with dead people in it. The NOPD released the car to a crushing company. One of their workers saw the rental car sticker and called to have it picked up. I guess they were going to salvage any parts that weren't burnt. It freaked the tow truck driver and him the hell out when they opened the trunk and saw the body parts. The bodies had been dismembered before they were thrown in and the vehicle torched. I don't know how the cops missed that there were body parts inside unless they just didn't give enough of a shit to look. Burning a vehicle in a remote area should have been treated as a crime scene. Yeesh!

I wish we were closer geographically. I'd hang out anytime, anyplace with you. The youngsters exhaust me sometimes. I always feel like I have to explain so much. With people closer to my age, the cultural references are easier. I'm not sure twenty-somethings know who Wile E. Coyote is, as an example.

I'm Old Enough

Hey Susan,

I stumbled upon your blog through Adrianne and wanted to say hi. Just for the record, this twenty-something year old knows who Wile E. Coyote is. I even know about Felix The Cat. LOL, I had a great step-mom. I miss her. Anyway, I wanted to finally thank you (I know, it's a bit late) for your wonderful hospitality when we were down there for Yule. I tell Trixie all the time that when we come down there for a visit, I'll sleep at Susan's as long as she'll have me. I love your couch. Anyway, I hope you had a great Beltane. I know we sure did. Hope to talk to you soon.
