I am the Lizard Queen. I can do anything.
Jul. 30th, 2008 12:36 pmThe water supply hose and toilet float valve on the upstairs toilet have been changed. No more leaking water so far. The bill should decrease next month. Why does plumbing work always seem to involve cursing like a sailor? Is it because it's water-related?
My sister-in-law is picking me up in a couple of hours to go see the new X-Files movie. We're both lucky. Neither of us had anyone else to go see it with and I don't think we each realized that the other was interested. Hubby mentioned that his sister was nuts about Mulder and Scully when the commercials started running on TV. I called her and asked and she was both thrilled and relieved to have someone else to go with.
While we're down in Elmwood, I'm going to see if she minds stopping at the Best Buy to let me get the new Alice Cooper CD, which according to
ravenspirit70 is awesome. Maybe I'll be able to hammer out the fill-ins for Chapter 3 and 4 with some new music pounding into my ears, especially when it's Alice. I'm not as squealy about new releases as I was thirty years ago, but my heart does pound a bit faster at the prospect of fresh audio titillation. I'll never lose that excitement, and if I ever do, put me out of my misery. I do not want to live a life where I am indifferent to Alice's music.
I've finally gotten around to watching Torchwood episodes. I'm caught up to the fifth episode of the first season. The special effects for that show and Doctor Who make them well worth the time. I liked Doctor Who back in the day before decent special effects, but I always hoped for improvement in the technology. Another British show I loved for its effects was UFO, plus the guys were cute and they were fucking up the nasty aliens that came here to fuck with us. A revivial of that show with today's effects technology would be awesome. I wonder if Gerry and Sylvia Anderson would object or if they're even still alive to care.
Two days until I leave for Shreveport and I haven't packed a thing. I guess I'll have to do some of that this evening after the movie and some tomorrow morning before I go to lunch with Teena from my both writing groups. It's really nice to take it easy and take afternoon naps if I want. This is a good vacation so far.

Date: 2008-07-30 05:44 pm (UTC)I guess it's because of the gross stuff that comes out of the drain. I'd curse too if I had to deal with that every day! And let's not even think about clogged toilets.

Date: 2008-07-30 06:09 pm (UTC)The best part was realizing that I was saving a couple of hundred bucks in plumber's fee. 'Cause you know they can't fix it in one visit. They have to come out, look at it, go back to get parts and then return to fix it. That's easily $200 if they get $100 minimum housecall charges. If you have average manual dexterity and can read the instructions, anyone can fix almost anything in their houses themselves. When I stopped renting and bought a place, I vowed never to hire anything done that I didn't at least research doing myself.

Date: 2008-07-30 11:38 pm (UTC)You have to rack up an FCC fine equivalent minimum of $100,000 to get the average faucet on. Showerheads are cheaper, but it's all set out. You just can't see it.
